What precautions should I take when handling my Técnico ID password?

There are several factors that can contribute to a password being compromised, which usually result from careless handling of the password. In this sense, it is suggested that each user takes specific care, namely:

  • avoid writing the password in notes, diaries or files in an explicit or easily interpretable way,
  • avoid giving the password to colleagues or family members.

However, there are also lesser-known technical factors that can lead to password compromise. For example, if a computer’s security is compromised, the password may eventually be identified even before it is sent to the SI servers.

To avoid this possibility, you should:

  • keep the computer with all security updates (in the case of the Windows operating system, using the “Windows update” system),
  • maintain an active virus protection system,
  • avoid using third-party computers or computers whose security raises doubts, when accessing IST pages or services that involve entering a password. When access is made through a third-party machine (such as computers available in public places), there is a greater possibility of the machine being compromised (voluntarily or unintentionally) and recording the passwords that are entered.
