What is the POP protocol?

POP (Post Office Protocol) is a protocol that allows a user to remotely access an electronic mail address. POP3 (version 3) is one is one of two common email protocols available when configuring email clients.

We recommend against using POP3 because this protocol removes messages from the mailbox in the server, making it impossible for our IT services to provide backups of your email if you lose it. In this case any responsibility for backup of the mailbox rests with the user.
