Set up VPN in iOS devices

The following instructions refer to the configuration of the VPN service with the Técnico network in iOS. This tutorial is based on the iOS 17.0.1.

  1. Download the tecnico.ovpn configuration file to your device.
  2. On App Store, install “OpenVPN Connect – OpenVPN App” and click “Open”.
  3. Access your device’s “downloads” folder, open the “tecnico.ovpn” file, and click the share button in the lower left corner.
  4. On the share menu, select the “OpenVPN” application. OpenVPN is automatically open and the “vpn.tecnico.ulisboa.pt [tecnico]” profile is shown.
  5. Click on “ADD”.
  6. Fill in the following authentication fields:
    1. “Profile Name”: vpn.tecnico.ulisboa.pt [tecnico]
    2. “Server Hostname”: vpn.tecnico.ulisboa.pt
    3. “Username”: istxxxxxx, where istxxxxxx corresponds to your TécnicoID.
    4. “Password”. Password associated to your TécnicoID.
    5. “Certificate and Key”: None
  7. Click on “Connect” and then click on “Allow” on the pop-up.
  8. The connection is now established.
