Kerberos is a secure network authentication protocol. It is therefore thanks to this protocol and the Kerberos system installed by SI that it is possible to manage, for example, the passwords in the users’ browsers of the Técnico domain pages and the SSO services they support.
The main reason for the introduction of Kerberos was the creation of a single, secure, network-based service to authenticate to Técnico in order to discharge local services to authenticate and consequently control access per se. It also supports authentication in several other systems and services available to the community, such as e-mail, wireless network, AFS file system, among others.
